The Zeller See is located near the town of Zell am See in Austria. This lake has an area of 4.7 sq. km. It is 850-1400 m wide, 68 m deep at the deepest point, and 4.5 km long. There are a variety of things to do and see in this area. Zell am See is a superb lake and mountain resort with scenic surroundings. Some have ventured to say that this is the most beautiful part of the country. The setting on the shores of the lake, with the majestic Schmittenhohe Mountains as a backdrop, offers visitors the best of both worlds.

The mountain has an elevation of 6500 feet and many excellent ski areas. Zeller See is a truly enticing destination for sports enthusiasts. There are over 30 types of sports you can enjoy here – nautical sports on the lake and in Zell’s state-of-the-art swimming pool complex, lake steamer rides, hiking, tennis, golf, walking, cycling, riding, summer skiing, paragliding, sailing, river rafting and many more. There is a water skiing school for beginners who want to try their hand at this exciting sport. There are outdoor pools in Schuttdorf, Thumersbach and Kaprun. The indoor pool in Zell, part of the hotel complex, is open not only to guests of the hotel but also to visitors.

The mountains are accessible by cable car or gondola. The well-preserved and marked routes will take you to different heights. Those who find this exhausting can enjoy the Lake Promenade on the banks of Zeller See. If you don’t enjoy hiking, yet relish magnificent views, you can take a gondola ride up into the mountains and walk down to the valley afterwards. Guided hikes through the majestic Hohe Tauern national park are available for experienced walkers. Walking is highly recommended in this area – the network of pathways is around 150 km long. You can also visit the Kaprun Glacier. Trips are organized to the famous Krimmler Waterfalls, the 8200-foot high Grossglockner Pass, to the exciting city of Salzburg and to Bavaria. In the evening you can take a cruise on Zeller See. This is destined to become an unforgettable experience. As you sail through the crystal clear alpine waters, you will relish the panoramic view of the snowcapped High Tauern range to the south and the rocky Kalkhochalpen range to the north. Coach excursions are also an option. Cycling enthusiasts can rent bikes at the rail station or sports shop. The ride perimeter around Zeller See is 12 km.

Zell am See is located in the state of Salzburg. This charming spa town is the administrative center of Zell am See region, sometimes referred to as Pinzgau. It has approximately 10 000 inhabitants. The pedestrian center of Zell features lively street cafes adorned with flowers. Zell offers great shopping opportunities and an excellent array of restaurants. A landmark here is the 12th century Kaprun Castle, which hosts art exhibits, art performances and concerts every summer. The events for children are innumerable. Every Thursday Children’s Olympics take place if the weather permits.

The picturesque town exudes medieval charm and boasts a prime location, permitting fantastic trips in the surroundings. Zell am See is divided into five townships: Oldenzaal, Zell am See proper, Thumersbach, Schmitten, Erlberg and Bruckberg. Settled back in the Roman ages, Zell am See was granted market town privileges in 1357. It was offically established as a city in 1928. It was a prime tourist destination long before that, however – the railway opened in 1875 and many tourists started coming here in the summer. Steam navigation on Zeller See began with the boat Elisabeth in 1881. The landmark of Zell, the Grand Hotel, was completed in 1894. It was constructed in three stages.
