The ski gloves have to be waterproof and durable, with some synthetic glove liners. It is good that they are thick enough to protect your hands from the wind and injuries but still comfortable to allow you to move your hands freely. |

Outdoor pants/ Ski pants
They are a basic item of the outdoor ski clothing. The outdoor or ski pants should protect you against the negative consequences of the outdoor activities and in the same time keep up your thermal balance. Choose a waterproof type with as many functions as possible. Ski Bibs
Ski bibs are some convenient variation of ski pants preferred by many skiers. They are tightly stuck to the body and you will be safe even when you ski powder at the highest speed. Ski bibs are made of waterproof material to assure you will remain dry when hitting the slope. Thick enough but breathable in the same time, they are made to make you feel comfortable while skiing.

Outdoor/ Ski jacket
Together with ski pants, the outdoor/ ski jacket fulfills the basic functions of the ski clothing to protect you from cold weather and be a shield against crashes. It should be made of moisture-wicking material to maintain your thermal equilibrium and also be waterproof to keep you dry and warm. You can choose among different types of ski jackets with specific model and brand, each having its own features and characteristics according to the recreation or outdoor activity. Fleece jackets
There is a standardization of the Three Layer System, according to which fleece jackets represent the second upper layer with the purpose to keep you warm and in the same time ventilated while skiing. If you follow the three layer rule, the first upper layer should consist of suitable Base Layer, then comes the second layer with the fleece jacket and finally, the third upper layer should be an outdoor/ ski jacket to protect you from severe weather conditions.

Base layer
The base layer is the very next to your skin, which helps it to feel dry and comfortable. Its purpose is to absorb the moisture from your skin and to spread it equally out over its surface. Once the moisture is taken out from the basic layer, it will be evaporated through the other layers of the ski clothing. Some renowned brands of Base Layer fabrics include Polartec, CoolMax, Patagonia and Helly Hansen.

Sweatshirt
This is a pullover or sweater with long sleeves, often with a hood, sometimes with a front pouch or pockets for the hands. Due to its lightweight and breathable characteristics, it is a very comfortable and multifunctional piece of clothing, used in many outdoor activities. If you take the sweatshirt for skiing and snowboarding, you need to get a reliable type to help keep you dry, warm, and comfortable while exercising. Normally, many models are made to attract the attention with their colors and models but remember that your top priority is not the design but the functionality.

Ski socks
Do not forget about your ski socks before going to the slope but also remember that you need to choose a pair that will keep your feet warm and dry. Nowadays, socks are made of certain materials to satisfy every need of the skiers feet. Here the rule is valid again to look for the functionality before the design. Many skiers prefer thick socks to reassure their feet will be protected against blisters and coldness. You have to consider yourself the type of material according to the activity you will be involved in but always look for a type with moisture-wicking properties, insulation and breathability.

Ski hats, beanies and headbands
If you do not want to use a ski helmet, although it is the most recommended head gear, take a ski hat, beanie or headband for your head. There is a big variety of types, designs and colors. Once you choose the hat that fits you and you feel comfortable with it, you can use it in other activities during cold weather. If you choose a headband, remember that it is good for the mild coldness but for windy and very cold weather, do not hesitate to take your hat. |
Dressing in layers
Skiing all day long means that you can face different meteorological conditions in the morning it can be sunny but windy in the afternoon. In order to adjust easily to the weather change and in a cold ski day, an essential tip is to dress in layers. This will save you when being on the top of the mountain, where it may be windy and cold, and after that getting down where is sunny and warm. Dressed in layers means that you will stay warm no matter the weather and you can always remove a layer if it becomes hot. Vice the versa if it gets cold, the layers will keep you warm.
How to Dress in Layers:
1.Base Layer Clothing
2.Mid-Layer Clothing
3.Optional Fleece Layer
4.Outer Layer
5.Accessories
Closest to skin is the first, base layer of your ski clothing, which can be long underwear (including shirt and pants). Wearing the old-fashioned "long-johns" is not a good idea regarding your comfort on the slopes. As a substitute, there are under-layers made of breathable materials that absorb perspiration from your body, keep it warm and preserve it from cold. You can find them at affordable price in many stores. Another idea is to use as basic layer a moisture-wicking T-shirt that will have the same function.
The next layer is your mid-layer, which has to be the insulating layer. You can choose to wear anything that will make you feel comfortable and warm. This includes a sweater, an insulating shirt or a turtleneck some light upper piece of clothing designed warm enough to keep you comfortable during skiing. There are skiers that choose vests for a mid-layer, for others the sweatshirts are the most comfortable insulating layer. Try out different combinations in order to make your choice.
The fleece layer is optional, worn under the ski jacket. This layer can be a fleece, but also a warm "soft-shell" jacket. This layer is preferred from the people that are sensitive to coldness, but it is very useful for preserving the warmth on very windy or cold days.
The outer layer includes a ski jacket and ski pants. This is the most expensive but also the most important layer. Your ski jacket will ensure you will be protected from the coldness and possible injuries. There are various jacket styles to choose from, but the two main types are insulated and shell jackets. If you take an insulated jacket, it will protect you from snow, rain and wind, but also will keep you warm and comfortable. Taking a shell jacket, means you will provide yourself a shield from harsh elements, but you will not be protected from coldness because it lacks insulation.
Like the ski jackets, ski pants are also available in insulated or shell styles, and have the same essential function for keeping you completely dry, warm and comfortable.
Last but not least, you need ski accessories. Among the most important ski accessories are the goggles, gloves (mittens) and hat/helmet/head band. Goggles will protect your eyes from the sun and snow. Your hands will need gloves or mittens, and your head will need a hat or a helmet. Wearing a helmet or hat is important, because the most heat is lost through your head.
