In the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park of East Tyrol lies a real treasure – the Kals - Matrei ski resort. The town were connected by routes in 2008 and since then the lively town of Matrei in Osttirol is the main resort in the region. Lying at the foot of Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain, Kals is much more peaceful, but with a greater choice of difficult routes.
The bottom station of the gondola lift taking skiers to ski areas on the slopes of Cimaross (2,621 m) is located on the outskirts of Matrei. Runs on the side of the town are gentle, with a wide selection of red and blue routes, which should appeal to all family members. More challenging routes are located on the side of Kals am Grossglockner, and Kals offers varied off-piste terrain. The entire local area can be summarized by one word: diversity.
A few kilometers away, above the town of Pragraetten, there is a tiny station offering 3 km of trails.
