The Weißseespitze peak (3525 m), towering above the ski resort area on the Kaunertal glacier, is the hallmark of this sparsely populated valley. Skiing on the Kaunertal glacier is an ideal holiday for people who on the one hand seek peace, and on the other hand are not afraid of a long journey to the lifts. The second station in the valley, the family resort in Fendels, is now available directly from the centre of this town.
The Kaunertal Valley is inhabited from the entrance of the locality to the main town of Feichten im Kaunertal. After that it’s a 20 km journey to the lower station of the lifts taking skiers to the glacier ski area. On the glacier, skiers have at their disposal a total of 38 km of trails, mostly intermediate and easy, which some may find a bit monotonous. Thrill-seekers will find 6 km of black slopes on the glacier and a lot of possibilities of skiing off the beaten track. The Kaunertaler glacier is known for extensive off-piste opportunities, the Weissseejoch route is especially popular, leading from Karlesspitze (3260 m above sea level) to the central station of the Ochsenalm gondola lift (approx. 2300 m above sea level).
The second ski station in Kaunertal is located above Fendels. You can ski here down 16 km of easy and medium runs. A 2 km black trail is supported by the Plangger ski lift. Access to the resort is available not only from Fendels. Residents of Ried im Oberinntal can use Fendels-Ried-Bahn - the cableway connecting the town with the station.
In Kaunertal, it’s worth choosing accommodation in Feichten im Kaunertal to shorten the time spent driving to the glacier as much as possible. The car drive takes about 20 minutes.
