Val di Sole is rightly called the Valley of the Sun. The average number of sunny days is impressive. As for skiing, the region is one of the most popular in Italy. Val di Sole consists of two ski resorts only 20 km away from each other. The larger of these is the Folgarida-Marilleva station, stretched between two villages with the same names. The smaller station located in Pejo offers 17 km of ski runs up to 3000 m above sea level. You can also visit the thermal springs in Pejo Fonti.
The Folgarida-Marilleva ski resort offers over 50 km of trails on slopes descending from four peaks of up to 2,200 m above sea level. Lifts leading up to the trails are located in four local towns: Folgarida, Marilleva 900, Marilleva 1400 and Daolasa. There are mostly easy and intermediate ski runs, however they are quite long. In the upper part, the resort is above the line of the trees, but most trails quickly lead to the forest and enable you to ski in an enclosed area. Although they go through the forest, the slopes are wide and are perfectly suited for relaxing, recreational skiing. Anyone who wants to ski on the more difficult trails can embark on slopes in Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo – there are 100 km of runs here. The Folgarida-Marilleva station is connected with them by lifts but you need to have a SkiArea ski pass. As a result, there are over 150 km of routes at your disposal, ranging from very gentle to really demanding. Folgarida-Marilleva is chosen most often by families with children and groups of friends looking for easy access to slopes and a holiday atmosphere.
Pejo, which is located twenty kilometers further, offers 20 km of ski trails with 5 lifts. The biggest attraction is the local 5-km trail leading from a height of 3,000 m down to the lower station of the gondola. Skiers are transported to the top by a 100-person cable car that runs approx. every 10 minutes. As a result, the slope is only available to those who have just arrived at the top, sometimes it is a very limited number. Long, wide trails without crowds are the favourite skiing conditions of the majority.
Snowboarders can enjoy snow & fun parks, as well as attractive half-pipes. In addition, toboggan runs are also available.
The Val di Sole region is famous for its great cross country trails that circle around the valley, creating a network of routes with a total length of 75 km. Routes for cross-country skiing are among the finest in this part of Italy.
Tourists coming to ski to Val di Sole have the opportunity to choose accommodation almost directly on the slopes. Marilleva 1400 is a so-called purpose-built ski resort – it consists of giant residences in the shape of cuboids, built in the 60s. Although from the outside they arouse mixed aesthetic feelings, inside they are fully equipped small towns. Almost each one has a shopping mall and a variety of entertainment. There are also individual buildings lying almost on the slopes, but on the opposite side of the mountain resort of Folgarida, which are more in the traditional Alpine style. Marilleva 900 is composed literally of a few buildings clustered around the lower station of the gondola. Finally, below the aforementioned Pejo resort are three towns: the historic settlement of Pejo, its tourist part (lifts and hot springs) called Pejo Fonti, and the Cogolo di Pejo settlement which is 3 km away.
