Montana description

The Hotel Montana opened its doors to its first guests on Christmas Eve in 1964. It was founded, on Monte Bondone, by Vittorio Barbieri and his mother Tina. They are Bolognese by birth and Trentini by adoption and had a great deal of experience in the industry behind them. They had been looking for the right place to establish their hotel for a long time. Undecided between Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo, they happened on Monte Bondone by chance and fell in love with it immediately. The idea of the Hotel Montana was born in that moment. To create the hotel, they chose a site which was, at that time, nothing but a formless slope. Working side by side with the engineer Giulio Dolzani, Vittorio tried to decide how to make the most of this Bondone slope’s potential. Thus was born the idea of structuring the hotel around a hexagonal tower, open to the beautiful landscape on all sides. A choice ahead of its time which did away with the long, dark corridors that were the hallmark of every hotel of the period in one fell swoop. The hotel takes its name from the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana. The dual character of the word, both a noun and an adjective, conjures up the mountainous environment which is what Vittorio Barbieri believes a Monte Bondone hotel should convey. Since that Christmas Eve, the Montana has continued to grow. In 1972, in order to cope with numerous requests, the hotel was extended with the construction of the residence. The Montana has retained its unmistakable appearance for many years, becoming one of the region’s landmarks. However, this Monte Bondone hotel has been the focus of great changes in recent years. Alberto took over from Vittorio in managing the hotel and, under his guidance, the Montana changed its appearance once again. The two blocks of the hotel were joined by a new central body and the structure was raised by a floor, the restaurant expanded and new rooms built. This new development has transformed the hotel into a real family mountain resort. A formula characterised by the numerous services it offers to guests. An auditorium, a gym and a miniclub plus the hotel’s comfortable, complete wellness area, make the Montana Monte Bondone’s most complete hospitality structure. All this without losing the warmth and hospitality which has always been its aim and has always been a characteristic of its history. In fact, the Barbieri family are ever present in this Monte Bondone hotel, transmitting a unique sense of affinity to their guests and their staff. A practice particularly appreciated by families and large groups.

Cuisine. Sunlight entering the large west-facing windows illuminates our restaurant’s dining room. Located on the first floor of the hotel, it’s a place in which some of the most intense moments of a holiday are experienced. Here, immersed in an informal, harmonious atmosphere, our guests sample the aromas and flavours of our cuisine. The food we offer closely follows the Trentino and mountain tradition but the Bolognese origins of the Barbieri family are not completely forgotten. Much water has passed under the bridge since Toina Barbieri hand-sealed hundreds of tortellini for the first guests of the Montana. Fifty years have gone by since that time. Today the food is more varied; the classic Trentino recipes are accompanied by dishes from Italian and international cuisine. Homemade strangolapreti pasta, tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, tasty goulash alla trentina, strudel and creamy desserts are just some of the specialities we prepare for our guests. However, faithful to our tradition of welcoming everyone, we provide vegetarian dishes and we also pay the same attention to those who are intolerant to gluten. We have been members of the AIC [Italian Coeliac Association] for over ten years and therefore offer a gluten free menu prepared with all the necessary precautions. In our wine list we favour Trentino wineries and vineyards: the mineral notes of the mountain whites, the characteristic flavours of the reds and the excellence of the great Trento DOC sparkling wines go hand in hand with an extensive selection of Italian wines. Managing a hotel on the top of an unspoilt mountain imposes a great responsibility on us as regards the region in which we are situated. Thus, even in our cuisine, we are very careful to ensure sustainability and respect for the environment, favouring local suppliers and local products. We are happy to offer the fresh and delicious natural water of Bondone free of charge. This water flows freely from the fountain to the bar and is always to be found on the restaurant’s tables. We thus avoid unnecessary transport and waste. For the same reasons we try to limit food waste in every way. We prefer not to overdo the portions, always ensuring a second (or third) portion for those who show appreciation of our dishes. So, you don’t need to worry about asking for a second helping. Our dining-room staff are there to indulge you.

CHILDREN. At the Hotel Montana a family holiday is an expression with a very clear meaning. We believe it means parents and children sharing moments and experiences to bring them closer together, creating an unbreakable bond. All our hotel’s organised activities for the little ones should therefore also be suitable for adults. A family holiday should, after all, be a time for being together. Bubo is an owl and he’s our mascot, a little hero for all the Montana’s young guests. We therefore decided to dedicate our miniclub to him. Bubo wood is a colourful, fun space, designed for children from 3 to 10 years of age. There are swings and a corner for painting, colouring and being creative, for giving your imagination free reign. There are also picture books to read and comfortable sofas and soft beanbags to sit on, and a private bathroom suitable for children. During the high season all the activities we organise for children and their parents start here. There’s a full calendar of events: from the delicious Nutella party to walks in the woods looking for elves; from pizza-themed parties to tournaments; and even bobsleighing. There are also the baby dance, shows, miniclub games (drawing competitions, workshops and an evening minishow) and walks. In summer, the most popular activity is the Cercenari trail walk which ends with delicious polenta prepared on Viote’s pastures.

GYM. At the Hotel Montana we care as much about fun as about the physical fitness of our guests. We have therefore acquired the necessary space to accommodate not one but two gymnasiums on Monte Bondone. A fitness gym, dedicated to anyone who wants to keep fit even when they’re on holiday, and a bouldering gym, designed for all lovers of this climbing technique. Set up at the beginning of 2015, our fitness gym is equipped with two exercise bikes, two treadmills, two lat machines, a weight bench and soft and postural exercise equipment; all Techonogym-brand equipment. Fitness lovers can use the gym and there are dedicated locker rooms for them. Bouldering is defined as a form of climbing performed on a concave surface, with few holds and a series of obligatory traverses. The surface can either be a large stone or an artificial structure like the one in our gymnasium. In both cases ropes and harnesses are not used. However, if you fall in the gym you land on comfortable mattresses. The height is obviously restricted. Housed in a room on the hotel’s ground floor, the Montana’s bouldering gym is perfect for both enthusiasts of the discipline and for beginners who want to try it for the first time. Bouldering equipment is also available at the gym.

STUBE. We really love our stube. It’s a secluded, private place, always open for anyone seeking tranquillity to read a book, browse the newspaper or simply have a little time alone. This small room located near the bar and restaurant is also our way of recreating, inside the hotel, a place of great importance in Trentino mountain culture. All the farmsteads in our region have a stube. We often pay homage to this tradition by opening the doors of our stube to a series of niche events, designed for a few passionate enthusiasts. Thus, Trentino grappa-tasting evenings, meetings with local food producers (from cheeses to organic drinks and much more besides) and book presentations take place here. Evenings attended by an attentive public interested in an open and inclusive cultural offer.

Hotel Montana’s auditorium is much more than a conference space. It is, in fact, a truly multi-purpose hall and is perfect if you are looking for a location for a conference, company meeting, refresher course, award ceremony or party with a large number of participants. It is equally suited to hosting the large number of events we organise for our guests, such as music festivals, cinema evenings, karaoke, theatre performances, pyjama parties for children and award ceremonies for sports groups. Located on the lower level of reception, it can be reached easily either by lift or via the main stairs. A secondary entrance assists in the loading and unloading of any cars or vans. The room is completely soundproofed. From 2019 Sky Sports and DAZN subscriptions are also active, allowing you to watch championship and European cup football matches.

Wellness Center. You can absorb the atmosphere of warmth and relaxation created by the Hotel Montana’s saunas, swimming pools and spa treatments in this wonderful Monte Bondone wellness area. We know that the Monte Bondone region is as challenging as it is beautiful to explore. There are all sorts of pastimes to enjoy, summer and winter alike, for those who choose it for a holiday. We also know how pleasant it is to enjoy a moment of intense pleasure and relaxation after a day in the open air. We have therefore created a complete, comfortable wellness area on Monte Bondone, inside the Hotel Montana. Here you’ll find saunas, swimming pools and spa treatments which will treat your mind and body to moments of intense pleasure and relaxation. The facilities all enjoy the hotel’s best views, looking out over the splendour of the Brenta Dolomites. Climb the staircase and open the door. The ambience of the saunas is all set to transport you on a journey of intense pleasure and great well-being. Start with a lukewarm shower. This will moisten your skin, preparing it for the saline or sugary scrub which will encourage perspiration. Now dry yourself carefully. Doing so will help to activate your perspiration before you choose a sauna. We suggest you start with the gentle hammam, a 40°C steam bath perfumed with balsamic essences which have a beneficial effect on the entire respiratory system. Alternatively, you can choose the gentler of the two Finnish saunas. This reaches a maximum of 60°C and encourages muscle relaxation, helps the body to purify itself and improves blood-vessel tone. The same effects are produced by the 90°C Finnish sauna, a more demanding experience which is rewarded by the splendid view of the Brenta Dolomites you can enjoy from its large window. Each session in the sauna shouldn’t last longer than 15 minutes and should always be interspersed with sensory showers or the Finnish bucket — a thermal shock which gives your vessels a little workout as it makes them alternate between vasodilation and vasoconstriction. It is also advisable to take a few minutes of rest in our relaxation areas, rehydrating yourself with a cup of hot herbal tea between sessions.

A large window covers the entire area in which the hotel’s swimming pools and jacuzzis are housed thus ensuring that the area is bright and has a clear view of the passing of the seasons which visibly change the Monte Bondone landscape. There’s a pool for adults heated to 34°C and a separate, height-controlled swimming pool for children. In addition, there’s a jacuzzi with six effervescent beds and a relaxing vertical waterfall next to the pool. There’s another jacuzzi outside on the terrace which can be accessed directly from the swimming pool. Its water is heated to 36°C, which makes it pleasant even during the winter.

SPA SUITE. Our idea when we created the Spa Suite, was to design an intimate and exclusive space within the Hotel Montana’s wellness area. A secluded and relaxing place to which our guests could retreat to experience of complete tranquillity, far from everything and everyone. With this in mind we created a space designed for couples and small groups. Inside our SPA Suite you can enjoy the hotel’s most beautiful view as it looks out over the splendours of the Brenta Dolomites. It has a 36°C jacuzzi and a 90°C Finnish sauna and to complete the amenities there are two comfortable chaise longues, a home cinema TV system and a herbal tea area.

SPA TREATMENTS. Treat your body and soul to a really long moment of passion. Choose one of our spa treatments and let yourself be cradled by the expert hands of our specialists. With carefully-controlled movements, enveloped by the fragrance of essences appropriate for the season, you can give yourself up to a journey of discovery in a universe of passion and well-being.
