Update 08.11.2022.On this site we put all actual restrictictions on the Coronavirus situation

  • AUSTRIA - NEW "2-G-rule": The following measures are in effect from 8 November. Like in many other European countries, COVID cases in Austria are currently rising. To keep locals and visitors safe, additional protection measures are about to be introduced:.
    • For hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, leisure centers, gyms, cultural institutions (cinemas, theatres etc.), ski lifts, Christmas markets and body-related services (such as hairdressers) proof of vaccination/recovery is mandatory (children under the age of 12 are exempt).
    • For events with 25 people or more proof of vaccination/recovery is mandatory (children under the age of 12 are exempt)
    • COVID tests (both PCR and antigen) and antibody tests are no longer valid as "entry tests".
    • Children up to the age of 12 are exempt from the obligation to test. In the case of a quarantine, this is deemed to have ended when the quarantine of the accompanying adult is over. In any case, the child must be registered for pre-travel clearance, if this is provided for.
    • For children from the age of 12, the regular entry requirements such as registration for pre-travel clearance, testing and quarantine apply.
    • For minors between the ages of 12 and 18, if they enter the country without proof of vaccination or recovery and the accompanying adult has such proof, a negative test result or a medical certificate of the negative test result on entry is required

The following vaccines (including mix-and-match vaccines) are recognised: BioNtech/Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Sinopharm/ Sinovac:

    • Double vaccination: Currently applies for 360 days from the time of the second vaccination or from any further vaccination. From December 6th, the validity will be reduced to 270 days. There must be at least 120 days between the second and third vaccination.
    • Single vaccination Johnson & Johnson: The validity is 270 days from the 22nd day after vaccination. Attention! The validity of the single vaccination ends on January 3, 2022, after which a booster is necessary.
    • In the event of incomplete vaccination with a vaccine that requires two doses, a transition period will apply until December 6, 2021: Until then, a proof of vaccination for the first dose together with a valid PCR test will be considered as 2-G evidence.
    • For those who have recovered, a certificate of recovery or a medical confirmation that an infection has been overcome (must be verified by means of a PCR test) are valid as proof. Validity: 180 days. An antibody test is not considered as proof of recovery!
    • If those who have recovered are vaccinated, the first dose is already valid for 360 days as proof of admission. From December 6th, the validity will be reduced to 270 days

Please note that in Austria a mouth-nose protection (FFP2 mask) has to be worn in public transport, in cable cars, in shops as well as in many cultural institutions such as museums.

A proof of a negative test, vaccination, or past infection can be a doctor's certificate, an official test result, a vaccination certificate/vaccination card/vaccine passport (including a PDF from an electronic vaccine passport, either on your phone or printed out), or an official/medical certificate proving a past infection, either in German or English. If your original certificate is not in English or German, please use this official health certificate in German or English as proof. Entry is also possible with the EU's digital Covid certificate (Green Pass).
